The Espace Louis Vuitton München is pleased to exhibit works by the South African artists David Goldblatt und Zanele Muholi within the framework of the Fondation Louis Vuitton Hors-les-murs program. Goldblatt is regarded as one of the most important South African photographers, having documented private and public life in his home country during and after apartheid and revealing the structures of a society shaped by injustice and inequality. Working primarily in the medium of photography, Muholi claims to be a “visual activist” whose work goes largely beyond social documentary to tackle questions of identity and the representation of black women’s bodies in today’s South Africa, by giving visibility to a marginalized community that is often attacked.
