Inaugurating the brand new Various Other Social Club format, Mouse on Mars – one of the most idiosyncratic and remarkable electronic music projects in Germany – is in conversation with systematic musicologist and music psychologist Helga de la Motte-Haber and Lenbachhaus München curator Dr. Eva Huttenlauch. Elaborating on their anarchic sound mixture oscillating between uncontrolled chaos and precisely arranged structures, they focus on their current exhibition transforming the Kunstbau into a gigantic stereophonic instrument. The talk is in German.

Followed by a set of DJ Keriner (Radio 80000) and generously hosted at Hotel MIO by Amano.

Mirror Piece I & II (1969/2018) counts among Jonas’s earliest performances and the original version was influenced by the feminist discourses of the time. Inspired by Broadway choreographies of the 1930s and 1940s, performers formed themselves into frontal arrangements while wearing life-size mirrors. In 2018, the performance was reconstructed for the first time based on photographs and notes and adapted into a new version. The mirrors carried by the 15 performers reflect the space, the bodies of the other performers, as well as those of the spectators. Through the fragmentation of the space and the fragility of the props, Jonas addresses the power structures that underpin the gaze and the way gender constructions are propagated by media images.

Museum Brandhorst hosts a breakfast viewing of Nora Turato’s commissioned flags. Celebrated for epitomizing the era of rapidly changing social-media and advertising inflected text emerging from every corner of a digitized world, Turato has become one of the most incisive observers of meaning—and its absence—today. Turato will inaugurate a new series of artist-commissioned flags at Museum Brandhorst.

Just as parents document the growth of their children, the height of visitors is recorded on the wall. The performance transforms a private action into a public event. Let us say farewell together to a glorious Opening Weekend of VARIOUS OTHERS 2022. Museum Villa Stuck opens their garden for sparkling drinks and joined conversations, recapping the events of the past days,  while enjoying a fantastic DJ set by Benjamin Röder and Manuel Kim. As a special treat, graduates from the Academy of Fine Art will open a group show in the museum on the very same day. In the spirit of  connecting, VARIOUS OTHERS also invites the members of the Open Art to celebrate art and culture together! Let’s drink to that!

Based on extensive image and sound data sets of the four museums, the internationally renowned AI media artist developed a data sculpture that illuminates the façade at the main entrance of the Pinakothek der Moderne on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Refik Anadol opens the evening with an artist talk together with Angelika Nollert, Director Die Neue Sammlung - The Design Museum and Dr. Franziska Kunze, Chief Curator of Photography and Time-Based Media of Sammlung Moderne Kunst.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Pinakothek der Moderne, the curators of the Sammlung Moderne Kunst have joined heads in rehanging the collection in a new display. Characterised by a spirit of curiosity and experimentation, the new hang invites visitors to rediscover the collection in themed galleries and unconventional juxtapositions that transcend epochs, styles, and media.

Curator's tour of the exhibition 'You call but not to me' in collaboration with CCA Temporary Gallery, featuring Hannes Heinrich and Buket Isgören. Magdalena Wisniowska will talk about the concept of the exhibition and the meaning behind the title. The artist, Hannes Heinrich will also be present.

KunsTraum9 and max goelitz jointly present the group show "Freedom of manoeuvre“ featuring Neïl Beloufa (*1985, F), Haroon Mirza (*1977, UK) and Gabriel Rico (*1980, MEX) with works from a private collection. The artists are joined together by their interest in assembling ordinary materials like solar panels, wires, cardboard, sticks and stones to complex artworks.

In dialogue with the Munich-based artist Frauke Zabel, Amanda Carneiro (Museu de Arte de São Paulo in residence at Villa Waldberta) will address connections between Munich and Brazil, the heritage of colonialism and the possibilities of changing institutions. Curators and writers Lizaveta German (The Naked Room) and Teresa Retzer (Haus der Kunst München) discuss the exhibition 'Propaganda of the Living World' at The Naked Room in Munich.

They address the current situation of artists coming from Ukraine, as well as those who have remained and continue to work in the country, and the support structures, challenges and needs of displaced artists, but most importantly Lizaveta will talk about the works on display and the general narrative behind the show.

In their audiovisual piece Schreber is a Woman, the Barcelona-based artists’ collective El Palomar delves into the mind of Daniel Paul Schreber, a German lawyer (1842–1911) who became famous for his reports from a psychiatric clinic that later inspired Freund. Together with El Palomar, we will use the story as a basis for a queer meditation on transness, biopolitics, and German children’s books.

On the occasion of the exhibition Elements by Steven Aalders at Walter Storms Galerie, the gallery invites well known Dutch art critic Robert van Altena and Steven Aalders to discuss the fundamental elements of painting through the artist’s current exhibition. In addition, they will talk about their jointly made book The Fifth Line. Thoughts of a Painter.In this widely read book Aalders thoughts about art and particularly abstract painting and its relation to the world are discussed in a series of interviews conducted by Robert van Altena. Why is fundamental painting still actual and how does abstract art relate to our world, especially in this time of violence and pollution. What is the meaning of the fifth line?
