To honor the Pinakothek der Moderne’s 20th anniversary, the internationally renowned media artist has created a unique data sculpture for its outer façade which is based on the data of its four individual museums.

Just as parents document the growth of their children, the height of visitors is recorded on the wall. The performance transforms a private action into a public event. The one-time presence of the visitors leaves a trace that opens up a new perspective on individuality and collectivity within the specific space and passage of time.

Based on extensive image and sound data sets of the four museums, the internationally renowned AI media artist developed a data sculpture that illuminates the façade at the main entrance of the Pinakothek der Moderne on the occasion of its 20th anniversary. Refik Anadol opens the evening with an artist talk together with Angelika Nollert, Director Die Neue Sammlung - The Design Museum and Dr. Franziska Kunze, Chief Curator of Photography and Time-Based Media of Sammlung Moderne Kunst.

Marking the 20th anniversary of the Pinakothek der Moderne, the curators of the Sammlung Moderne Kunst have joined heads in rehanging the collection in a new display. Characterised by a spirit of curiosity and experimentation, the new hang invites visitors to rediscover the collection in themed galleries and unconventional juxtapositions that transcend epochs, styles, and media.
