Esra Ersen: Heritage
Evanthia Tsantila: Suburbia
10.09.–22.10.2022
Opening 09.09.
For this year’s Various Others, FRANÇOISE HEITSCH presents two installations by Esra Ersen, A Possible History and Karussell, as well as work by Evanthia Tsantila in cooperation with Zoumboulakis Galleries.
Full of serene subversion, Esra Ersen’s work is based on an empirical and analytical study of social situations through culture, myths, rites, and science. She employs a methodology of micro-events borrowed from documentary films and anthropological research.
Evanthia Tsantila presents a drawing of a tree. She says, “This extraordinary piece of nature has stood in the German south for almost 800 years. How can we understand the concept of time in nature if not as duration? The tree is somehow a solid duration, a body onto which we have laid our tumultuous history of centuries.”
Both artists reflect the transnational art and culture transfer which is inherent to the program of FRANÇOISE HEITSCH.
