Sheila Held & Sebastian Tröger: Sunnyside Up
For this year’s edition, JO VAN DE LOO is hosting The Green Gallery from Milwaukee founded by John Riepenhoff in 2003.
The collaborative exhibition showcases the work of Sheila Held who has been creating tapestry works since the 1980s. The tapestries are dense with imagery which she has described as an attempt to access the point where magic, science, religion, art, and nature intersect. In exploring this conjunction of opposites, she achieves a complementarity in the hope of narrowing the gap between the ideal and the practical.
In this context JO VAN DE LOO presents the latest paintings by Sebastian Tröger. Above all, his artistic work is characterized by the interplay between practical and conceptual approaches. With historical critical reflection, he creates works that ask questions about the present in an ironically broken manner by means of painting and medial translation.
